Ms Conura, aka Leg Day Bae, aka Femur Teef, aka the Chonky Chalcid 💛

She looked like a yellow jacket while buzzing around. They're very large for chalcid wasps.

How about a gall fly (Eurosta species?) who seems to be a jumping spider mimic, with a set of large false "eyes" on the back of the thorax?👀 Very fierce (from the back), perpetually blowing raspberries on the front side.

Aww feeling some universal human warm fuzzies - just sold our gigantic bed that we had until our child grew out of his separation anxiety to another family going through the same thing trying to squeeze their kid into the parental bed and scaling up rather than fighting it 🥰

A young male Rhinoceros Hornbill turned up in Singapore this week. It is huge compared to the local Oriental Pied Hornbills, and it oozes charisma. This is the first time in 200 years that this species has been seen in Singapore, despite populations in neighbouring Malaysia.

This little bandit is a young Common Palm Civet. I often find them in the wild fig trees at night. Beautiful animals and equally at home in the forest or the shadows of suburbia.

Can you see the little Four-ridged toad? Volume for the sound of more toads croaking in the leaf litter. I’ve been searching for this little guy in Singapore for 5 years. Finally one walked across the forest floor in front of me. Happy!

Why are random citizens consistently, and continuously, turning up major scandals by the government that NZ media are both *incapable of finding* AND refuse to report on even when they learn about it via citizen journalism???
Also has the NZ media even reported on the OIA by NZATE (I think it was) that returned evidence that David Seymour logged in to a Google Doc of the English curriculum rewrite and started making his own edits to it, completely outside the chain of responsibility and Ministry procedures?

Sorry spider haters, but this was just the most beautiful beast & I knew (nearly everyone) would need to see it 😉. It sat frozen, up on its toes, on the edge of Leeman (WA) salt lake while I took pics. Unfortunately it was too big (body length 1.4cm) for my lens. #spider #Lycosidae #Tetralycosa

My four favourite facts about the cockchafer beetle:

1. It's called a cockchafer beetle.
2. It’s also sometimes known as a “billywitch”.
3. It’s unusually loud and clumsy by beetle standards and bangs into lots of things when it flies into your house by mistake.
4. It looks like this, close up.
