There has always been a LOT of money flying around from gambling companies trying to crowbar their way into games in some quite unpleasant ways.
Games-as-art needs to resist them as much as we can imo, because they are nothing but bad news for the medium.

more and more elements of the games industry are going to align themselves with gambling in the coming years, in a normalization of market failure. it is crucial to build a new paradigm for games and it must be ideologically opposed to this one. restructuring around gambling is anti-culture.
