So I'm in Kenya and have ended up at a hotel that's probably too fancy for me to justifiably be in. I was in Nairobi until recently, which was basically just a bunch of chaos. I'm a white American and would have 5-10+ people a day aggressively beg me for money, run up to me upon noticing me and

Make sure to never use AI, everybody.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."

Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

@microsoft.com Seriously, why do you people keep forcing this crap on us? Look at what we think of it. How are you this out of touch?
And CoPilot keeps reinstalling itself, like digital herpes.

Higher USAID support was associated with a 15% reduction in overall mortality and 32% reduction in child mortality.

This was the effect of not just its health work but also its development support for economies, people, and institutions that transitioned numerous countries off of aid.

My new passport showed up in the mail today, which I wasn't expecting, so now I can think about what places I want to travel and booking hotels, etc. - I already reserved one in Galway for late October (around Samhain) - still need to buy the plane ticket, and there will be direct flights

Maybe I'm just being overly negative, but I absolutely cannot stand the weather here any more. Even Summer sucks. It rained a ridiculous amount yesterday but at least then it didn't start until the afternoon and I had some kind of chance to actually enjoy being outside at some point.

My fun little public transit adventure today: The bus I tried to take to the zoo was a full 30 minutes late - called metro transit while waiting for it to ask what the hell was going on. The woman claimed it was a few minutes late. It was already 10+ minutes late by this point.
