The waiting room was updated! Greetings from the corporate purgatory for boring adults. Kids need to find a new space to get their oil changes, I guess.
An entrance into a renovated waiting room area. White walls and ceilings surround you. Light wood patterned vinyl flooring holds you steady as you try to sit in very tall chairs that line the bar-height table along the perimeter. Somewhere deeper inside, I imagine seeing a spreadsheet open on a laptop and hearing a deep, existential sigh.

Employees have been told they'll be placed on admin leave, with no word on duration or actual RIF procedures. If someone, anyone in media sees this, please be there. Document how they've illegally put in an Acting Director when the current leadership refused to terminate their employees in an illegal manner - the statue says only the DD for Libraries or the DD for Museums can be Acting Director without confirmation. Document how this administration is shutting down the disbursement of federal formula and discretionary grants to libraries and museums across the country. IMLS's reauthorization is up in September. Professional associations have been lobbying congress for the last year and they have widely had bipartisan support - and now crickets. The Rs are understandable; they're complicit and/ or terrified to stand up for learning institutions. The Ds? Who the fuck knows. IMLS, VOA/RFE/RFA, the Wilson Center, and the other small agencies whose federal funds don't even add up to $1B were the sacrificial lamb that Schumer for whatever reason agreed to, and now the Ds don't want to see the consequences of their fecklessness. By the way, anybody who uses Libby or other e-reader programs through their libraries or has ever gotten and inter-library loan... guess where the money for those programs comes from.
