I think all those “Illinois 8th congressional district” searches are exclusively from me copy-pasting Raja Krishnamoorthi’s name. Otherwise this is an accurate summation of my 2025 hyperfixations.

Finished! Less interesting than the first one, but an unexpectedly relevant tale of how well-meaning people let democracy die.

Reading Claudius The God, and I came upon a passage which I think gives some insight into the current GOP and the Trump capitulators.

No wonder Michael Wolff gets access. He behaves like a scheming vizier to gain their trust before completely completely turning on them when it's time to write a book.

I’m reminded this morning of Coates’s remarks re cowardice and the Senate’s tendency to describe itself as “the greatest deliberative body in the world.”

Defending this institution is using it in moral ways, ways that can demand courage.

Okay, but what if I managed to be depressed and unmotivated in my 20s and 30s while being entirely sober?
Weed is often seen as harmless, but for many people, it can slowly become a serious problem, especially as they approach their twenties or thirties. Today, we take a closer look at how long-term daily use can affect your relationships, mental health, and life in general: https://kgs.link/QuitWeed

If the Trump admin's goal is to foment a Chicago nationalist movement that prioritizes Chicagoan identity above and increasingly at odds with American identity, they're succeedding.

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

This is my experience too. "The Democratic Party," as it's discussed on social media, might as well be "The Lizard People." The people who showed up to their first meeting after the 2016 election and stuck it out, however, now control the party in my hometown.
