I wish more men would perform for women by reading instead of perform for other men by being really racist and developing body dysmorphia.
it’s been bugging me.
if a guy is actually reading books he’s not being performative. he’s jus reading books.
sure, he might be reading books to impress women but that doesn’t make him bad or dangerous. reading is good and we all do shit to make ourselves more appealing to potential partners.

I'm seeing a social media trend where people are sneaking pics of men reading books in public and making fun of them as "performative males"

Yes I also hate this. Bad people make good art, good people make bad art, stop using the art to judge the moral goodness of the person.
On a similar note, going “well, their art was always bad anyway” is a very similar boat of associating art quality with the quality of a person, really only worth shouting out loud to pat yourself on the back for your taste in media giving you a clairvoyant sense of moral character
