Critical to remember throughout that there are no heroes in this story.
Part of the trashy soap operatic quality to this whole <mugs for camera> affair is that Ryan Lizza resists sympathy and comes across as a journalistic suitcase pimp, which explains why he's mentioning this now instead of during the campaign or confirmation hearings.
Lizza also talks about Nuzzi going even deeper into ethics violations by doing catch-and-kill on stories about RFK and writing campaign strategy memos

This is far more important than the disgusting sex shit and I'm kind of mad Lizza paywalled it

Folks, Zohran Mamdani—smart guy, reminds me of a young me—you know what he said, I told him, “Zohran, I’m gonna do it, I’m gonna say the shahada,” and he said to me “Mr. President, you should say a third line confirming your belief in the wilayat of Ali,” should we do it folks? Should we say it?

“Sure, they released *some* of the files, but can anyone really trust Pam Bondi’s Justice Department?” can do a lot of heavy lifting in the absence of an adequate gotcha moment.
lot of people on this app seem really committed to the notion that nothing damaging will come out of the Epstein files.

let yourself hope a little! it’s free!

“When are we gonna stop indulging this? Without undue sanctimony, I think one can say it’s wrecking the country. It’s a goddamn disgrace. Especially when so many worthy journalists, who dedicated their lives to their profession with ethics and seriousness, are being cast onto the ash heap.”

Volunteer to pilot this social project, please.
Revenge/physical combat was how people settled things for literally millions of years, it's normal human behavior, we're wolves not sheep, the government project trying to social engineer us and domesticate us into sheep has been unsuccessful

Come on, man.
"I'm a rando who prefers to believe that everything is a conspiracy and am happy to tell women that I know better than she does how their literal job works" That a news org makes an editorial decision you wouldn't (or I wouldn't) doesn't mean someone is killing a story on behalf of a powerful person
"I write for the New York Times, and I can assure you that we've never buried stories on behalf of powerful people, many of those powerful people being part of NYT management. We only publish what's fit to print, like Zohran's application to Columbia that was leaked by a white nationalist"

77M people voted for a fascist last year. Who gives a shit about community?
I'm going to die on the hill that Utah's redistricting outcome is actually bad for democracy.

We don't have a single competitive congressional district which means parties can retreat to polarizing treatment of each other rather than build roots in communities in order to win close races.
For decades, any Utah Democrat who wanted to go to Congress had to campaign as a moderate or conservative. Now that the state has a solidly blue congressional seat, though, running as a progressive is suddenly an effective strategy.

He wasn’t polling at 36%, had a functional and comparably competent Congress at his disposal, and wasn’t actively fucking up people’s lives with Gestapo and tariffs on a daily basis. In short: things are different now than they were then.
What exactly are emails supposed to do that the 10+ years of other media documentation has not done? This guy planned, staged, and attempted a coup against the American republic and people reelected him. The Republicans had a known pedophile as Speaker when I was younger and it had no impact on them

We have an advantage in the U.S. inasmuch as our underminers are deadset on presenting themselves as unapologetic enemies of the public good in a way that should theoretically make their (very necessary) punishment more palatable to normal people. Nuremberg is the moderate approach.
The political forces that exploit lack of trust in institutions work to undermine institutions, further reducing trust in institutions, which they exploit for more power.

Much of the public blames the institutions, the govt, the elites in general, not the underminers specifically.

Tough problem.
The thing to understand about this is that this catastrophe in the UK has redounded to the political benefit of the very same people and political movement that pushed for it! Extremely perverse.
