I wrote about the muddle that "free speech" has become, brought to a head in two incidents during commencement season.
Shutting Down Salman Rushdie Is Not Going to Help
Two recent flare-ups over commencement speeches show how difficult—and necessary—truly defending free expression is.

Some of the stats in here are really striking. Per one paper, federal investments in R&D account for at least a fifth of all productivity gains in the U.S. economy since World War II. And the societal return for every $1 invested in the sciences is *conservatively* estimated at $5.

(3) i have determined the statistical law of motion of the diatomic molecule in planck’s radiation field 🧪⚛️

Of the many implications from the Russia-Ukraine war, this is the one I think about the most... what does the future of nuclear disarmament look like if the country who made the biggest commitment to the cause ends up getting hung out to dry?
A history reminder on Ukraine’s weapons: In 1994, Ukraine had the third-largest nuclear arsenal on the planet but agreed to ship them all to Russia in exchange for Russia (and the United States) respecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders.

Btw the Associated Press is a nonprofit cooperative that is still reeling from Gannett and McClatchy, who own 230 newspapers, pulling out of the cooperative. Here’s @mattdpearce.com on that
Wall Street declares war on the Associated Press
Gannett and Reuters come for one of the final corners for legacy media that had resisted the financialization of journalism.

Kari Nessa Nortun kan være en god partileder for Ap. Fra Stavanger Kommune klarte hun bare å appropriere 200 millioner kroner til partiets valgkamp, fra regjering bør man vel kunne snakke om tilgang opp i milliardene..?

They call me weird for preferring writing in Tex locally (Texifier) on my mac and use Git for version control, then Overleaf is down and I feel vindicated.
(You can share a Github repo to Overleaf, so collab is no problem unless when simultaneous writing is "necessary")

With all the new joiners, my original IO/org econ starter pack hit its size limit.

I have therefore split into into two (with some overlap). This starter pack is broadly for IO, competition and innovation:

I made a theory starter pack. It includes some CS/Econ, pol-econ, and behavioral types as well... Lmk if you'd like to be added (or removed!) and I'll do my best - the edit functionality is a bit wonky atm
