During the Revolutionary War, Charlotte became known as a "Hornets' nest of rebellion" for resisting British General Cornwallis' attempts to occupy the city, forcing him to retreat. The NBA's Charlotte Hornets get their nickname from our history. I hope we live up to it against ICE/CBP. #CLT #ncpol

Charlotte is turning into Chicago in the course of a day. My husband went to work earlier this afternoon and was informed Hispanic staff were sent home due to an ICE raid around the block in which all the Hispanic employees were rounded up and arrested. Fuck ICE.
A Charlotte pastor said Border Patrol came into his church and made an arrest in front of children. They cried “a lot,” he said.

“We are trying to clean the property. We didn’t know this is gonna happen.”

La Noticia in Charlotte's covering ICE enforcement actions today. It's hard to do journalism when you are not safe. Nationally, there's evidence of citizens and green card holders being caught up. I appreciate journalists doing this risky work.

Check out their work here.

Romance should evolve, but its so clear when people want the shine and financial benefit of Romance without respecting the genre, its conventions, or the readers. It's disturbing, but not surprising that we've arrived in a place where CRAFT DOESNT MATTER is a thing people believe.

Dealing up close with how to get any tiny bit of justice for a specific case in my own city while all of this has been going on has been at once clarifying and destabilizing. The filters people run this all through are so dehumanizing.

So many vulnerable people were hurt, harassed and raped by these ghouls and now—I’m worried—it’s gonna become hehe haha lurid internet circus instead of a long overdue moral reckoning. I’m scared of who we all are becoming. That man has brought us ALL low.

I'm incredibly sorry to hear this. Alice has done so much for all of her communities.
So saddened by the news that we have lost Alice Wong. It was an honor to know her and learn from her. May the lessons she shared continue to guide us for years to come.

Finished @older.bsky.social 's POTENCY OF UNGOVERNABLE IMPULSES last night. It was very good, changing the rules before the series codifies a formula. I appreciated the clear-eyed portrayal of a 2nd party confronting a partner's "melancholy" with an open heart, as a melancholic myself.
