I wrote about how we must stand and fight against the threat of eugenics.

Fueled by white nationalism and scientific racism, these beliefs are factually wrong and ethically abhorrent.

This fight includes supporting efforts to diversify our workforce & science. To stop now would be a deep betrayal.
Eugenics is on the rise again: human geneticists must take a stand
Scientists must push back against the threat of rising white nationalism and the dangerous and pseudoscientific ideas of eugenics.

I have yet to see any evidence that there is a market for AI-generated books outside of people being tricked into thinking they are not AI-generated books. AKA, it is a project of scamming and deceiving people, and really should be treated as fraud

I stand with County Executive Calvin Ball as he signs emergency legislation today prohibiting privately owned buildings from being used as ICE detention centers.

Howard County chose dignity, accountability, and its people. Tune into our event now:

the Post news is gutting for many reasons, but I can’t help focusing on the books section—how great it was, and how essential. So many worthy books barely get reviewed. I’ve had authors reach out to thank me because mine was the only post-pub coverage they got. Just awful for readers & for writers.

I mean, yeah, I used to be cool waiting for music festival tickets to go live. Now I change travel plans to crouch over my laptop ready pounce on kids summer camp registrations, hoping to get a wait list spot.

And now with two kids to schedule. 🫠

It's fine. I'm fine. Totally fine.

This is awful. There are so many hard-working and talented people who work at the Kennedy Center. They only get paid when there is a performance, so the last year has been hard. And now there will be nothing.

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”

This devastating, enraging NYT article reveals what happens when scientific institutions naively assume good faith while bad-faith actors exploit their systems. In a likely violation of both HIPAA and the Privacy Act, NIH failed to protect the DNA data of over 20,000 children.
