Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

(Published 2022)
That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

RFK Jr. spits out a mouthful of asbestos and takes a swig from his sewage bottle.

"I can already see children getting healthier," he gurgles, a bone from a roadkill bat lodged in his larynx. "The spike in measles deaths is a sign their mitochondrial vitality is spiking."

His left ear drops off.

I feel like in this world of expanded nostalgia continuity that it’s a shame we haven’t seen Clark and Lois interact with Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox.

Oh hey it turns out another thing Covid cautious people have been saying nonstop for several years is true: lockdowns did not cause “immunity debt,” and Covid infections DO cause immune disruptions that make you more vulnerable to other illnesses.

I get incredibly discouraged seeing multiple creative friends automatically defaulting to AI for graphics to promote their live events. Partnering with fellow creatives who enjoy designing images to promote live events doesn’t seem to be any kind of priority.

It is truly crazy how correct the HBO Watchmen series ended up being about the whole cop/mask thing when it comes to all of this shit with ICE

I just saw someone with a faded Scott Walker sticker clinging to the bumper of their Pontiac Vibe and just knew they had to be the most tiresome person in their friend group. Provided they haven’t driven their entire friend group away.

The two best edicts for a positive film geek community:

1) Yes, replace "I can't believe you haven't yet seen..." with "I'm so jealous you get to experience this for the first time."

2) replace "guilty pleasure" with "this is the trash I like." We all love some trash. Own it. Celebrate it.
As a cinephile one of the best things I ever did was replace "omg you've never seen ___?!?!?" with "omg you're in for such a treat!". Encouraging people to watch new stuff instead of scolding them for not having seen it is so much more fun and way likelier to get someone into film!
one of the things that made me fall in love with my husband, as "low of a bar" as it is, is that he has never once made fun of me or made me feel stupid for not knowing something. not even "oh my god you've never seen boondock saints???" or whatever

You should definitely view this in conjunction with the EO Trump just signed saying he's going to put "mentally ill" people in concentration camps.
More than 60 companies, including major tech companies like Google, Amazon and Apple as well as health care giants like UnitedHealth Group and CVS Health, have agreed to share patient data in the system.

ICE as an agency came out of the reaction to 9/11.

ICE is now being used to bring the war on terror home and terrorize American citizens.

It's hard not to say that the terrorism of 9/11 worked even better than the terrorists could have ever hoped. 24 years later it's still destroying America.

This is just an issue of personal taste, but I have never liked a raised collar on Superman. At best it feels awkward, and at worst it looks fascistic.

I have a long-standing personal promise not to allow Eli Roth any space on my viewing docket, and he just keeps giving me reasons to be right to do so.
PSA that Eli Roth does not deserve your support, horror fans.

Wish World actually straight up terrified me: A conspiracy theorist incel grifter is given access to reality warping powers and makes a world of enforced “good old days” where any deviation from his version of a proper society gets you disappeared when someone narcs on you out of fear.

It’s the new scrolling wall of text or tacked-on opening narration because trust in the audience has so cynically diminished. Only this time it seems with actual reason.
The last two movies I watched (Sinners and MI: Final Reckoning) both had really annoying and unnecessary flashbacks to previous moments in the film. They seem explicitly designed to help ppl know what’s going on despite being on their phones. I hope it’s not a trend.

Oh I know! Because most seemingly credible public health institutions lied and said it was no biggie and they didn’t need to protect themselves (also it’s probably well over 300 thanks to spotty reporting, and at times has been up to 2000 in the last year)

One of my favorite reads of the past few years was the long-awaited translation of the Godzilla novels that were written alongside the production of the first two films. There was a lot of new, interesting stuff in them.

So I was very happy to discover today that they're doing Mothra next.
