There’s just something about women’s hockey. Major misconduct and a Vancouver player removed from the ice within just a few minutes of the first period. Wowza

During the #16Days Against Gender Based Violence we remember that violence is a workers issue.

Unions have led the fight for paid domestic violence leave, safer workplaces, and real support for frontline services. We need governments to step up and fund the protections workers deserve.

The notwithstanding clause allows a province to make laws overriding parts of the charter of rights for five years.

The Assembly of First Nations expressed concerns over Alberta’s use of the clause to limit the rights of two-spirit and trans youth.

Kickoff meeting got tomorrow’s @canadianlabour.bsky.social Lobby Day - pretty sure this is one of the biggest crowds we have had. Tonight they talk about the issues, tomorrow they bring their voices to MPs and Senators.

Carney on Africa:
“Yes, Africa is part…Is it the first thing we worked on in terms of priorities? No…Because we have a responsibility to have that highest return.”
What a foolish, stupid thing to say/believe. Canada needs all the friends we can get, and he just told an entire continent to screw off.
The women that brought him to power might be raising their collective eyebrows.

Canada's view on Africa also bears reporting.

Management wants shorter wait times at CRA call centers — while cutting the very workers who answer the phones. You can’t improve service by shrinking the workforce. Simple math.

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, I hope Albertans will remember that trans kids and teens are living breathing humans who just want to be themselves, without fear of hate and discrimination. Demonizing kids merely to score political points in some weird culture war is craven and cruel.

Alberta just introduced Bill 9, which exists for one and only one purpose: deleting the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as it pertains to trans kids, denying them the right to life and stripping their healthcare away.

This is cruel, anti-democratic and anti-constitutional.

Using the notwithstanding clause to block gender-affirming care for trans Albertans during Trans Week of Awareness is a disgrace.

I don’t think I can overstate just how furious I am at Danielle Smith and her government. Using trans kids, their families, teachers and doctors as a political scapegoat to rile up her base. Just vile. And to think that the federal government are going to reward her by fast tracking pipelines… grr!
