It’s a policy choice and it’s not inevitable. Here’s a suggestion for changing this … bsky.app/profile/rbre...
CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 1965: 20-1

CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 1990: 75-1

CEO-to-worker pay ratio today: 280-to-1

What can we do about this? Here's one good idea.

As the year draws to a close, a crowd-sourced effort, as well as trackers from advocacy organizations and labor unions, show that the Trump administration has implemented roughly half of the goals laid out in Project 2025.

As the year ends, The 19th takes a look at how the conservative policy wishlist for President Donald Trump’s second term affected women and LGBTQ+ Americans.

- dove back into electoral politics
- worked on being a better mentor to the next generation of feminists
- celebrated my 20th Shackaversary by taking a fantastic Faroe Islands road trip with some very challenging (for me) hikes

Reading & writing has kept me alive this year.

Somehow, it’s been my most productive year as an author.

Here’s a guide to what I’ve published in 2025, in case you’ve lost track.

I will give no Stranger Things spoilers but I will say this. Sometimes I get annoyed when ST plays fast and loose with 80s stuff, esp when certain pieces of pop culture or fashion don’t correspond with my memory of that period. Today I got all annoyed with a character microwaving a bag of popcorn.

Mass deportations don’t protect working people—they weaken labor standards, silence organizing and empower bad employers.

Horrible
BREAKING: The House of Representatives just passed a bill that would subject immigrant children to invasive bodily searches and keep them in detention instead of releasing them to their families.

The Senate must vote no on this horrific bill.

Escaped to Winnipeg for a weekend impulse trip. Visiting pals and being a tourist in my hometown. A lot has changed in the almost 40 years since I lived here. It’s a perfect Winnipeg winter day. Cloudless blue sky, squeaky sparkly snow, cold that hits the lungs first. Home!

On #HumanRightsDay, we’re calling out the gap between promises and reality.

Fair wages, safety, and freedom from discrimination aren’t “nice to haves”; they’re non-negotiable.

Imagine thinking Ottawa and Ottawans are somehow special and that this one horse town cannot possibly learn anything from actual cities.
Bacon, in Ottawa for six days, was joined by Sir Robert Matthew, a renowned Scottish architect. Together they produced a 6 page report whose recommendations were largely rejected by Ottawa’s planners, who said the consultants didn’t appreciate local history or understand "the Ottawa experience".
