I must say this again: even if you somehow don't have a problem with AI slop art, when you use it you're poisoning your brand. You lose audience and working relationships with both artists and fellow creators.

What an appalling choice by the publisher to submit gen AI covers for their authors' books to a CONTEST, and I'm glad the awards pushed back against the use of gen AI and disqualified them. Heartbroken for the authors who didn't know, though.

Why am I so against generative AI in games?
Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

The term "slop" is starting to be used for anything that is tacky or of poor quality and I would really like it to be restricted to AI. I would rather have something tacky and authentic than AI slop made from 100 fine art works thrown into a digital blender.

The thing is, gen AI art will never be as flexible as something created and edited by human hands. You can't tell an AI "move that eyebrow two pixels to the left" without generating a whole new image. It's wasteful, inefficient, and ultimately more costly than just employing a human artist
