"Login with your Internet handle" discourse is getting a little stale now, let's try this one on for size:

With the TikTok US sale, TikTok will be decentralized before Bluesky.

Welp, it's Xmas Eve Eve, so my timing is impeccable as always.

Wouldn't it be great if you could share gift ideas with your friends and family on atproto instead of locking into Amazon or making an account on some rando site? Maybe by this time next year it'll be a thing.

Here's an early demo gif.

Well, mister, let me tell you I'm a journalist. And as a journalist, it's my job - nay my duty - to report the facts neutrally, completely, and exactly as they've been presented to me in the marketing copy on this press release from the company.

Perennial issue for alternatives.

25 years I've been telling folks "it's open source!" "they don't sell your data!" "it's not plastered with ads!"

Privacy, especially, is a weird one these days cause we seem to have passed a point where folks just don't think a better world is possible.

Spent the afternoon fighting with uploadBlob inexplicably returning `MissingScope blob:*/*` when the scope was clearly present.

Back to transition:generic for now I guess and check back in later.

@warren.senate.gov @markey.senate.gov I sent this to both your offices earlier this year, but here it is again as a reminder:

Dumping S.230 without a replacement in place hurts marginalized people and small businesses, not big tech.

I tell ya man, anytime I get something solidified about my atproto app, someone releases some super cool thing that makes it easier and better but kicks me back to the foundation phase for a bit.

To be clear, I don't hate it. Just it keeps happening haha.
finally landed it!

Tap is your all-in-one sync tool for the Atmosphere: webhooks, backfill, filtering, signaling collections, no cbor/msts/signatures/cursors. this thing's got it all!

Introducing Tap: Repository Synchronization Made Simple | Bluesky
Just about every app built on AT needs data from a repository at some point. For many use cases – feed generators, labelers, bots – streaming live data through a Relay or Jetstream works well. But som...

Got my Hand-Drawn Game Guides: Mega Man yesterday. Some real dope art in this.

Put my Dr. Wily sticker on my Evercade Alpha MM Edition...even though the book seems to neglect to mention Evercade EXP and Super Pocket as places you can play Mega Man 1.

Swapped over my little starter atproto project to the new library this evening. Nice way to reinforce my learning. End result looks+feels better, too - tho that may just be cause I know wtf I'm looking at now.

I'm sure there's still rough edges for people building Real Projects, but I'm happy. 👍
Hey y'all, we just released a new SDK for working with Lexicons in TypeScript! 🥳

It focuses on improving DX and some of the pain points of the current tooling (see my previous post below).

It's currently in beta and we'd love to get your feedback 🙇‍♂️

Okay I think I've got a handle on the basic mechanics of atproto apps. But I've decided to learn nextjs right alongside it because I can't just let things be easy so that'll be a little while yet.

Did my @anisota.net #harvest

Really gotta get those posting numbers up next year, this is embarrassing.

Started off 2025 with good intentions but spent most of my energy on unhinged blog posts so I didn't have any time left for unhinged microblog posts. Lesson learned.

Critical thinking and info/media literacy becomes more important as convincing but wrong or misleading stuff becomes more common.

This is a cool experiment for one part of that equation. Worth checking out and maybe going through with a child in your life.

Fired up the statusphere example application finally after looking at it for...entirely too long. 0.001% of the way to making my first atproto app.

I love seeing folks building cool stuff on atproto, but I gotta say I reserve a small amount of judgement for people building tiktok/reels-style "channel surfing" apps.

Call me out of touch, but I don't think there is a way to make this model of social media healthy. Moreso than other types, even.

If you haven't heard of Kagi before or haven't had a chance to try it, this post is a great example of what they're building and why.

If it doesn't inspire you to at least give their free trial a chance, well...just do it anyway trust me.

Someone gotta tell the dems they can do two things at once. You can advocate for your economic policies without "focusing less on...democracy"(?).
i'm fine with a deeper focus on economic issues over social issues but man does plank 2 give the game away

"Interchangeability" is a good word I hadn't considered, even tho it eats character count. Seems like it's a step closer to user- and value-centric than the nerd-wank terms like distributed, decentralized, or federated. Not to mention something that should continue to grow more tangible over time.
Interchangeability is what new social platforms like Bluesky and Mastodon are doing, though with different technologies and different ideas on how to do it.

When you hear talk about decentralization, it's about making the social platforms interchangeable to solve the neutrality problem.
Social platforms are not neutral
So they need to be interchangeable
