Loving Michael Russell's roundup of the new Italian places in Portland for @oregonian.com . Does throw around the "Red Sauce" slur with impunity, but takes its cues from Montelupo's ownership... who built it right into the name of the Sellwood place. www.oregonlive.com/dining/2025/...
Portland has a shocking number of new Italian restaurants. What we learned after trying them all
Portlanders can’t seem to get enough Italian — or Italian American, to be specific.

Best read of the day, by @wmstevenhumphrey.bsky.social . The @portlandmercury.com kept receipts on those who tossed up billboards telling people how shit Portland was and the "former alt weeklies" who had ex-WaPo and Bloomberg writers endorse them. www.portlandmercury.com/opinion/2025...

It is Nov. 4. If you're still actively complaining about how your bowl of full candy bars was taken from your porch by a kid you saw on a Ring camera, let's just accept that the bowl—and likely your story—are bait. It costs so much less to just turn the light off.

Functionally the end of linear MTV. The sheer amount of real estate this show took up on the channel during the last, ugly days of cable was overwhelming: www.mtv.com/tv-schedule/...
MTV has cancelled "Ridiculousness" after 14 years and 46 seasons.

Just Born will send all of the Mike and Ike's and Peeps it can to the western states. I'm convinced Goldenberg's Peanut Chews don't make it past Ohio.

Listen, if Portland is going to start making friends in certain places who run certain celebrity gambling rings, it's going to have to drop its use of "red-sauce Italian." It's not just pejorative, it's reductive and ignorant. In this case, the writer didn't use it: www.facebook.com/PortlandBizJ...

The author of this article continuously attacked the teacher’s union during their strike.

FWIW, most of the city had tons of city pride while right wing PACs, politicians, and media outlets were trying to get us to hate Portland so rich people could get tax cuts.
In a Portland under presidential provocation, civic pride makes a comeback
With national headlines celebrating the city's exportable brand of 'tactical whimsy,' Portland is shaking off its post-pandemic doldrums.

People being surprised the mob is still around and active in places like Portland, I don’t know what to tell you. It’s infamous for having an underground crime scene

With the World Series upon us, it's time to acknowledge baseball's true heroes: Shout out to Beulahland in Portland for putting the ALCS games on in a side room for Mariners fans, but keeping the projector in the main bar off and all but one TV silent. #baseballtown

A couple of ways to write about the Portland Fire's teased coaching hire. Here's one by @frontofficesports.bsky.social @anniecostabile.bsky.social :
The Portland Fire prematurely announced NBA assistant Alex Sarama as the franchise's head coach on LinkedIn Tuesday AM.

Multiple sources told me that while a contract has not yet been finalized, Sarama is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism.

Portland has just enough NE here to fuel demand for pizza and bagels and make business owners spend years honing the craft. However, there aren't enough expats here to make or break a place. If you're making Italian beef, brats, or tavern pies, however, Chicagoland folks determine your fate.

Good to see RAJ Sports making noise in the Trail Blazers sale negotiations. With the initial discussion around new Blazers ownership and a potential new arena treating the WNBA's Fire like a nonentity, it's a reminder that the Blazers won't be the only tenant of a building they no longer own.

Again, when discussing the future of the Moda Center, it would be nice if Portland's alleged outlet of record would acknowledge that there are two tenants with deep-pocketed ownership who'd likely want a say in it: www.oregonlive.com/blazers/2025...
