Though the Fire name surfaced amid trademark applications in June, Adopt looked to the city to move the brand ahead. “I think the great brands do that: It’s not just about taking them back, but it’s reminding them of their past and then scripting them into the future,” said Adopt's David Creech.

An @adweek.bsky.social exclusive: This morning, WNBA Portland brought back the Portland Fire brand, making it far more about Portland than fire. With help from Portland's Adopt, it built Mount Hood into its monogram, bridges into its letters, and the @modacenter.bsky.social into its "Rose on Fire."
