please give me more sad dad bands
I have obviously way too much to do today, but I'm overdue for additions to the Sad Dad Bands playlist, so I'm taking suggestions.

Couple tips:

One* post per band

This is modern Sad Dads, so not granddad rock, that's different

Music for dads of all genders counts

*My repeats don't count
Beirut

There's a timelessness to plucked strings, an urgency to triumphant bass, an enduring loneliness to warbled lyrics. It fits the places you linger on nights she has the kids: breweries, street-side cafes. You've plotted your retirement: away from the city, in the high desert of 8pm closings.

It's almost as if everyone has forgotten that ppl in Gaza have no income, no aid is coming in. They've been left to die alone. Please think of these orphan siblings this Christmas and buy them some food. Please donate and share their campaign 🤲🏽

Merry Christmas everybody.
With Christmas approaching, celebrations in Haifa were met with chaos after Israeli police stormed the Wadi al-Nisnas neighbourhood, arresting and beating Christians in the area.

Here are 12 notable works of independent journalism on Israel's crimes against humanity that you may have missed from the past 7 days.

"Crossing this 'Yellow Line' [..] constitutes a death sentence — even for children collecting firewood for their wheelchair-bound father."

"Yet not only is it poorly demarcated; it is also continuously expanding."

Israeli forces are advancing beyond stipulated boundaries, where Palestinians say supposedly safe neighborhoods are coming under fire without warning.

It's true that all the worst people in this country are using the shooting in DC to push their vision of impermeable borders, but they were already doing that and would be doing it regardless of events. For Miller, everything is justification for deportations and migrant bans. He cannot he appeased.

Today's must-read by @thomasbirm.bsky.social: a major corporate landlord is fueling homelessness across the U.S. *and* the mass displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank.

The Israeli company owns tens of thousands of apartments in the South, filing evictions at nine times the national average.
The Eviction Kings
One of Israel’s biggest companies is taking over huge swaths of US real estate—and tenants are paying the price.

Let's try something new.

If you donate to a food bank and tell me how much and which one, I'll match your donation.

If it's less than $50, I'll round up.

Tag me, reply here, or DM if you prefer.

Why food banks? Because if we want to survive a general strike, we need to keep people fed.
Now is a really good time to donate to food banks, and do food runs for mutual aid groups. Also, do menstrual product runs.
I wonder how much food theft spikes with desperate people just trying to feed their families. I'm sure there will be a media panic about it.

Everything else aside, are people shooting crack these days?
Andrew Cuomo’s campaign just posted — and quickly deleted — this AI-generated ad depicting “criminals for Zohran Mamdani.”

Features a Black man in a keffiyeh shoplifting, an abuser, a trespasser, a trafficker, a drug dealer, and a drunk driver all declaring support for Mamdani.
