I sent the following message to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social as a celebration of his victory and as a tribute to my father, who passed away eight years ago this week, and who would have supported his campaign.

My condo in Ypsilanti, Michigan is available for sale to any billionaires fleeing NYC. I’ve done a lot of work on it, and it’s pretty nice. But I empathize with political refugees, so I will let it go for $5 million ($4.9M if we close by the end of the month!).

Anyway, I'm glad our liberal intelligentsia is sacrificing science, morals, and objective facts to appease an orange-faced goon with congestive heart failure and his small cadre of rich Nazis because they think it'll put Black, brown, queer, and poor people in our place.

I saw this in downtown Ypsilanti this morning, it expresses my sentiments about the “national defense” AI data center/death machine that @umich.edu and Los Alamos National Laboratories plan to build on the Huron River, near my house.

The one time we got the smoking gun of undeniable ideology that mapped neatly onto american partisanship in political violence was J6, and we decided it was too scary to treat it as such, so now we return to deciphering memes of school shooters like medieval peasants panicking at an eclipse.

Newsom is designed to appeal to middle to upper class, low information, white Democratic voters by exploiting their short attention spans, their desire to ignore politics, their willingness to believe the best about Democrats in spite of evidence, and their desire for someone to "fight" Trump.

White patriarchs love the explicit "Old Country Store" branding because it conveys and celebrates a historical image of a public space dominated by old white guys in flannel shirts and suspenders. The change feels "woke" to them because it pushes that celebration into the background.
The reason that Cracker Barrel did a whole rebrand is because their business was cratering and the whole "old country store" schtick wasn't working anymore. It wasn't anything to do with "wokeness" or whatever tf the right claims it's about.

I just found some Brown Alumni Magazines to throw away in disgust when I noticed the teaser in the upper left hand corner of an issue cover from this spring. Since publishing this article, Brown apparently has decided that, as a matter of university policy, “gender reckoning” is as simple as “M/F.”

Fascists rule by fear and force, without regard to law. The Minnesota assassinations and the ICE kidnappings both illustrate the emergence of fascist power. When it’s impossible to tell whether the men with guns are random thugs or government agents, fear & force replace law as instruments of power.

1. In college, my part-time job involved, among other things, emptying dorm-room wastebaskets, including JFK, Jr.'s.

2. I got to speak to Bob Weir on the phone once, and he scolded me for saying that it was "a thrill of a lifetime." Bobby insisted that "It shouldn't be. I'm just like anyone else."
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

David Brooks, David French, Ross Douthat and Bret Stephens are not human beings. Human beings aren't capable of the thoughts expressed in their columns. Their work is produced by badly engineered software, which requires constant revision by a large staff.
I'm still getting over that the NYT opinion section has *200 staffers* what do they all do?

There was an old tweet that stuck with me: "If you can easily walk to the coffee shop but your barista has a one hour commute, you don't live in a walkable 15 minute city; you live in a theme park"
as someone who lives nextdoor to both supportive housing and public housing, i need people to understand that the best locations for both are going to be the central neighborhoods in a metropolitan area, where there is easy and reliable access to services and jobs.
