You may have heard about Ireland looking for a "nitrates derogation" in the news. But what does it mean? Why are nitrates a problem? Why does the government want Ireland to be allowed to use more than the normal limits?🤔

In addition to the questionable wisdom of spraying PFAS on food crops, organisations like @paneurope.bsky.social highlight, many PFAS pesticides break down into TFA, a forever chemical German authorities class as reprotoxic - harmful to fertility + child development - which can get into groundwater.
Sweden is re-evaluating 38 PFAS pesticides over links to TFA

#TFA is a short-chain #PFAS contaminating water sources 🌊

Earlier this year, Denmark banned several pesticides tied to TFA. The UK has yet to take any action on #PFASpesticides 🌱

We discuss how obscene levels of wealth concentration, declining living standards for ordinary people, and the manipulation of public debate by vested interests have made it nearly impossible to build the broad coalition needed to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss. 🌍🦤
Why are we failing on climate change and biodiversity despite fifty years of campaigning? Could social inequality be the root cause undermining all our conservation efforts?
In this episode, I talk with @tonyjuniper.bsky.social about his latest book 'Just Earth'. 🌍

Major public transport projects at risk as Govt priority shifts to roads; funding committed to Galway’s second ring road with “€1bn+” cost
Under pressure from rural TDs supporting it, the Government is shifting its transport spending priorities from sustainable transport to road building -- the funding ratio between public transport and roads is set to change from 2:1 to close to 1:1. Between 2026 and 2030, public transport is expected to get €10.1 billion, while roads is to get €9.7 billion, while active travel and greenways are expected to get €1.8 billion.

Funding allocations for The National Development Plan...

We can’t cut transport emissions 50% by 2030 with these allocations. This plan doubles down on car-centric thinking—more pollution, less movement, and zero vision for healthy, sustainable transport.
