I think this is mostly the correct take. He also enjoys celebrities who will speak to him.
I think the thing that Mamdani has here that other Dems don't is that he owes no loyalty to the old guard. A lot of Trump's mortal enemies actively tried to stop Mamdani. With a big smile, he beat the Dems that Trump hates and made them sad on TV. That's all Trump cares about.
