Southern type happily adopted by Masham (where I programme music and comedy at the Town Hall), by Yorkshire, and by @janrreed. Culture, quizzing, market town life, bit of sport, serendipity. He/him.
When I was (?) 15 I went to the Reading Hexagon on two consecutive nights to see Oxford Stage’s linked productions of The Importance of Being Earnest and Travesties. I already liked wordplay but those evenings made me fall in love with theatre. RIP and thank you Tom Stoppard.

Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

There’s a word for people who are “asset rich and cash poor”. That word is “rich”.
This country seems to have a bottomless well of sympathy towards asset rich pensioners and only contempt for anyone under 50 who is putting half their income into paying their landlords fourth mortgage and a big chunk of the rest into skyrocketing bills.
Look it’s never nice to find yourself in a position of having to move when you don’t want to but given that due to the volatility of the London housing market I have had to move FIVE TIMES since 2020 I’m struggling to feel very sympathetic towards people whose ’problem’ is a paid off 2mil property.

I think at this point if you're including Diane Abbott - a woman who has never held government office, has been a backbencher since 2020, and is scarcely a government ally - on your list of political wrongdoers, we all know exactly what your real concerns are

Somehow found myself on the Simple English Wikipedia entry for Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto, and more program notes should be like this tbh

Grand day, can’t beat a bit of frost and a pastel sky. See if you can spot the church spire.

This is a lovely rock/pop memoir. Debsey Wykes has the same knack for writing as Dolly Mixture had for 60s-girl-group-referencing harmony, and the stories of the late 70s scene I was a frustrating couple of years too young to experience are fascinating.

Lots of artists have been great at B-sides but only The Teardrop Explodes and Julian Cope (albeit perhaps not beyond My Nation Underground) did enough to compile into a stone-cold, no notes, filler-free, ten-out-of-ten, sky-high all-time masterpiece. open.spotify.com/playlist/0ju...

What a great idea!
Canada is releasing a set of stamps celebrating the nation's graphic novelists.

These stamps feature Kate Beaton, Jimmy Beaulieu, Guy Delisle, Julie Doucet, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, alongside some of their famous works.
