holy crap.

"In Ireland, there are more than 80 data centres, gobbling up 50 per cent of the electricity in the Dublin region, and hoovering up more than 20 per cent nationally, as they work to process and distribute huge quantities of digital information."

Guys are going "what's wrong with those old classics?!" when new scifi books have exciting new stuff such as female characters
Over on Reddit someone is asking for science fiction for their precocious young reader and the people there are suggesting books that were old when that kid's grandparents were the same age as the kid, for fuck's sake if you didn't know any SF books from this millennium maybe sit this question out

Feels like the moment MeToo went from discussing sexual assault and harassment by celebrities to examining these same abuses by family and friends, we saw an acceleration of the argument that “society gives boys nothing”. An orchestrated backlash by abusers who saw that their unmasking was coming.

for like 20 years we've been doing these experiments and they have the same results every single time and the people in power are always like "ok good, just a few more experiments to know for sure"
The results from Germany's big 3-year UBI experiment are out!

122 people got €1200/mo for 3 years. All were age 21-40 and employed with incomes between €1100/mo to €2600/mo

They were happier, healthier, saved more, gave more, enjoyed more social time, and DID NOT WORK LESS than the control group.

things adobe could do to fix their public image:

- offer the option to buy software in full for a lifetime (or ten year license at minimum)
- remove generative ai functions and support
- offer their suite free to college students until graduation
- celebrate art with more grants and scholarships

19 one-bedroom apartments on the social housing list in Cork this week with no nearby public transport. they have wheelchair accessible bathrooms but absolutely no way for a disabled person (on limited income) to actually get there from the closest bus stop. nonsense.

Aer Lingus fucking sucks. Never fly Aer Lingus. Delayed 2hrs 55min both ways - five minutes short of having to actually compensate us. Never have this problem with Ryanair.

This is barely newsworthy these days. An entire state’s military wiped out by another state in 48h with no declaration of war even needed - because international law does not apply to Israel. They can be bombing multiple countries at the same time.

Very much appreciating Salman Anwar’s photo of The Shard in the UK, which he points out they’ve tried to make festive and instead made look menacingly evil.
