DART's Silver Line is finally open! The silver line cuts across the northern suburbs of Dallas from East Plano to DFW airport, speeding up trips between suburbs and finally bringing rail service to Addison.

Just received this statement from Rep. Kam Buckner, co-sponsor of the House transit reform/funding bill. He says the reports of his legislation's death have been greatly exaggerated. 😃

This is often a @dlknowles.bsky.social point but at some point progressivism has to come to terms with the fact that there are only about two dozen billionaires in Illinois, so “tax the wealthy” actually means stuff like putting an extra $1.50 on the Uber someone hires for their fast food meal

Remember: the Senate already passed a transit bill FIVE months ago.

I have Thoughts™ about its contents and process of getting there, but they did in fact pass a bill with transformational reforms and a full funding package that the House could vote on literally any time.
33 Senators, knowing there was almost zero chance of the House even taking the bill up 12 minutes before the end of spring session, publicly cast their votes to blow up the fiefdoms of board seats and raise taxes opposed by some of the state’s most powerful lobbying groups.

That was hard.
I am sick and fucking tired of hearing legislators talk about how “hard” transit is.

They may not understand right now how hard it will be for their constituents if they don’t get it done — but every single member of the House is running for re-election right now.

We will not forget.

JB "NO" ON LATEST TRANSIT FUNDING BILL
@govpritzker.illinois.gov sounds like a hard NO on the House-proposed transit reform bill: "There's got to be a lot of discussion between the House and the Senate in order to come up with a final bill — because it isn't going to look like what the House has put forward." #twill

Today, we brought the train to Springfield to deliver nearly 20,000 petitions to legislators urging them to get the job done NOW.

Transit cannot wait. Legislators cannot continue to kick the can down the road. It is time to fix and FULLY FUND transit.

Next speaker says the opponents of the upzoning are spreading fear and misinformation, but the upzoning represents hope - safer streets, more CTA riders, more funding, more affordable housing.

I am at city hall for the zoning landmarks and buildings standards. Broadway upzoning day.

First speaker says the small buildings on Broadway "make Chicago chicago" and are threatened by the zoning change.

As always folks, buildings don't make places, people make places

I know that times may be scary, but you are seen, safe, supported, and loved here in Illinois.

lol would it be nice if UIC somehow decides to build ADUs?
the 34th ward probably has some of the lowest potential for people to build ADUs, but it will be 100% opted-in to allow them if the compromise ordinance is approved on Thursday

(gray areas are basically all planned developments and ineligible)

Someone in train car is eating a prepackaged ramen noodle. Just biting into the uncooked ramen.

I think this is the least safe I have ever felt on the CTA. something is unspeakably wrong here.

genuinely so disappointed by this decision. Gardiner fell prey to the NIMBY nonsensical rationale at the public meeting with no regards for much needed revitalization that *everyone at the meeting wanted*
Alderman Gardiner has denied the approval of 48 new apartments next to the Edgebrook Metra station. Across the street from a forest preserve.

With growth controls like this, it's no wonder why property taxes are climbing, and transit ridership is stalling
