Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

The double standard here is stunning. Universities are losing grants, student aid, and endowments for being "too woke." But churches (which also receive federal funds, eg, for school vouchers, food banks, and marriage promotion programs) are now allowed to openly endorse political candidates.

Articles like this should note that LAPD reported the fewest violent crimes since 2015, the fewest property crimes since 2014, and the fewest murders since 1966 through May.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

It does not serve academics well to take a chicken little/luddite approach to the gen AI issue. College was never about learning how to write essays. It's about learning to think. It's about learning to relate to others.

I just *profoundly* object to the framing in that article linked to in the OP: that all the students are doing it and no one cares and it's time to give up because the lazy cheating students don't actually want to learn anything.

I am really pleased to see our meta-analysis of media literacy interventions (160 studies!) has been published in HCR. Unsurprisingly, there is a lot of nuance. One piece of good news is that the interventions work longitudinally.
