Obsessed with Martha's flower-picking basket she's kept for more than 30 years. After one season of picking in the peony fields, my wheels are turning...

Today I wanted to share my pleasure reading pile (as opposed to research reading). I've made a decision to read or reread only big, long books for awhile to rewire my brain to combat the fragmentation of recent months. This corresponds to rethinking how I approach these books. 1/2

A bit of oldster advice: There comes a time where not being on the wrong projects for you is as important as being on the right projects for you.

Two dudes with similar minds to me are Henry Rollins and Blindboy Boatclub. Feel like they could find a topic of interest to bond over very easily.

This is your occasional reminder that, if you like Neil Gaiman's stuff, but can't bring yourself to like it anymore for justifiable reasons, Tanith Lee is the author he is credibly accused of extensively cribbing from, and her work is on Audible, and AMAZING.

Someone posted their new house which is an old library remodeled into a single family residence and i've never seen anything more sacrilegious. You could sell off a limestone cathedral in Chicago and this is still worse to me.

Every time Martha Stewart goes on a field trip to NYC in 1993 she'll enter this architecturally ornate building with like columns and the building is fully tagged. It's still 80s NYC. So incongrous with her fancy show.

No-strings-attached, zero-means-testing, no-questions-asked cash payouts have been proven, over and over again, to be the most effective form of charity/aid going.

It gets people in housing, and it saves the state money. We know this. It's fact, not theory.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Still on Ssn 1 of Martha Stewart Living and she and I have had our first big disagreement. She made a whole sideboard of sugared fruit using some foraged crabapples and berries but mostly whole fresh fruit like pears and apples. These sugared fruits aren't gonna be eaten!! Absolutely not 💰 Martha💰
