The immigrants who aren’t here are not only not working here; they’re also not spending money here. When consumer demand for goods and services diminishes, business owners don’t need to hire as many people." The costs and uncertainty created by tariffs have also led businesses to hire fewer people

It was easy to predict that Trump’s immigration policies would reduce the number of people looking for work, what wasn’t always fully considered was that the choking-off of immigration would reduce labor demand as well:

A smaller population resulting from lower immigration means a smaller economy well into the future. On top of that, more restrictive immigration means fewer working-age immigrants paying taxes, even as many of them wait years to get most federal benefits (or never become eligible for them).

Did you know that some MLB owners take out loans against future season ticket sales and then use that money to buy themselves mansions/yachts etc? With the added bonus of being able to whine to fans that the team is actually carrying a lot of debt?

Trevor Phillips proposes banning "remittances" (ie: imposing currency/exchange controls on international cash transfers by foreign nationals from Britain). He says this would disincentivise immigration, in a Times piece saying the Home Secretary needs to go [much] further

"A growing body of research suggests that minimum wages distort economies in ways that do not immediately appear in jobs numbers."

Maybe The Economist should focus on how tech companies with inflated valuations distort economies instead of targeting low income folks.
This is a deeply sexist take, given that ~2/3 of minimum wage workers in the US are women.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.
