trying to figure out what's going on here, co-chair @livablecville.bsky.social
Well I’m going to log off for the day and go read Caro on what the senate was like in the Gilded Age since that feels particularly relevant at the moment

Have you considered kicking out the people who gave up the fight and picking a new leader who is capable of leading the same
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

Now a Mamdani exception as well, but otherwise the take is holding very strong
Outside of AOC, we probably need to take the car keys away from all New York elected officials for awhile

Jeffries saluting Adams while holding off on endorsing Mamdani so he could focus on healthcare funding was a pretty clear early sign where this would end up
NEW: Jeffries praises Eric Adams in a statement, saying he has "served courageously and authentically for decades" and that "meaningful progress has been made" during his mayoralty.

Says he will "publicly weigh in" on the mayoral race "well before the start of early voting.”

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

This is so unnecessary, no one on the mall has even has shopping bags because there are no brands on the mall!! And it’s already squeaky clean.

We could do a lot with $1.2 million… like build public restrooms
November 9, 2025 at 1:10 PM
This is a bad use of city funds: $1.2 million to help people carry their shopping bags, give directions, and sweep leaves. This is the squeaky wheel getting the grease, not a solution to real problems.

Some business owners welcome 'million-dollar clean team' on Downtown Mall, others find it 'dubious'
Some Charlottesville business owners hope that a $1.2 million two-year pilot program for cleaning and ambassador services will help declining foot traffic; others say it could push unhoused folks away...

Anyone who regularly rides a bike understands this but here is some evidence to support Matthew’s statement www.calbike.org/new-studies-...
New Studies Show No Downsides for Bicycle Safety Stop - CalBike
The safety of allowing people on bikes to treat stops signs as yields continues to pile up, while California has yet to legalize it.

My 13 year old and 10 year old have started doing a lot more roaming about the city with their friends. Personally I think we should make it as safe (and fun) as possible for them and other kids to bike, walk, and bus about town. Why hasn’t this been a long standing top priority for the city?

This week a friend was reading a staff report and asked me what the problems are with stepbacks. I mentioned a few things (cost, often look bad).

I then said, “they’re often coupled with the non-sense description/justifier ‘human scale.’”

They said “yep, that’s in the report.”
One way to reduce condo defect liability: stop forcing architects to design buildings that leak. HCD’s “objective design standards” guide *encourages* making building envelopes more complex, heightening leak and therefore defect lawsuit risk cao-94612.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/documents/Ap...

This morning I introduced my 10 year old to Tim Duncan. He was very surprised to hear Duncan was better than Kobe. We watched some TD highlights, which mainly consisted of layups and jump shots.

Albemarle County maintaining the county’s development area in the new Comprehensive Plan is actually de facto a further expansion of their development area into surrounding counties. It’s a pro-sprawl, pro-car dependency plan, anti-housing affordability plan. It’s a preservation of the status quo.
Dedicating 95% of the county to land and only allowing dense housing in 5% of the county is a humanitarian, environmental, and economic tragedy. It's no wonder that so many people here are struggling to get by

Tuesday was a great day
BREAKING: Book banning extremist group “Moms For Liberty” LOST ALL 31 of their races.

Moms for Liberty is now 0-59 in contested school board races since 2023.

This is what happens when communities have had enough and say NO to book bans!

Reading in “Master of the Senate” about how Thomas Jefferson tried to purge Federalists from the judiciary. So I guess the Jefferson Council is carrying on that part of TJ’s tradition too, besides the whole racism thing.
