Yielding rather than stopping at stop signs (aka “Idaho stop”) has consistently been found to be safer for cyclists. Regardless of what is legal, cyclists will always opt for what is safer for them, as they should.

UVA’s Emergency Alerts are in function about creating a perception of safety rather than safety, but in the most stressful and ineffective way possible. And this logic is so tortured as to be non-sensical.

This is a great example of how “tough on crime” rhetoric operates - it doesn’t care about data and will always use crime to serve its narrative, even in a scenario where there is very little crime.
