I have news for you

it is not just games, it's tech, it's the arts, it's academia

we are all going through a billionaire class induced, intentional global economic recession right now (other than "AI" grifters who WILL inevitably be out of a job in a year) and it's going to get much, much worse
Trying to find a job in video games right now is like crawling through hell:

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

MS. Magazine, you up?
Television’s MSNBC news network is changing its name to My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW for short, as part of its corporate divorce from NBC. It will also remove NBC’s peacock symbol from its logo as part of the change.
Cable's MSNBC will change its name later this year as part of corporate divorce from NBC

I feel like there was a tweet - and this was maybe even before Generative AI - where someone described tech bros and their jealousy of the creative and educated as “they don’t want to write a book, they want to have written a book” and I think that’s only increasing.
Exactly right.

They simply want the end product — whether it’s an actual production of art or music or the end result of hard work like a PhD — without doing the work.

It’s cheat codes all the way down.
Something that I have been thinking about with attribution of "PhD level intelligence" or "PhD level expertise" to a machine is that it reflects an increasing trend among these AI bros and their sycophants to want the products of highly skilled training without actually doing any of the work.

I was thinking with a friend about how to describe the harms of AI, especially in a teaching and labor context, and came up with calling it a “coordinated campaign of mass deskilling” and I feel like that succinctly describes a lot of the problem.

Dersh has been banging this drum since Trump1 & the really good news is: ostracism works, even on the shameless.

Tons of people miss this--the shameless are hyper-sensitive to stigma.

Civil society should use this free, non-violent tool to punish destructive people a lot more often. It works.
Dershowitz says he’s suing the Martha’s Vineyard Farmer’s Market after the pierogi guy refused to sell to him yesterday because he defends Trump. He complains that he’s also banned from the MV book fair, library, synagogue, and can’t get invited to any parties.

This administration is much, much weaker than they would like you to believe. In many cases they're making themselves weaker through incompetent self-sabotage. Claiming they've successfully brought about a fascist regime because they've committed lawless acts of cruelty is doing their work for them

This is also what transformed the US from a state willing to found and fund programs to aid its citizens to one trying to convince the populace that they should ask for and expect nothing from government.

Land giveaways, grants, etc. Can no longer legally be White Only, so now no one gets anything.
What we are living through is the PEAK of "drained pool politics"

Drained pool politics is the termination or defunding of public resources due to the will of one group, whether they also use the resource or not.

Think the end of public pools nationwide b/c white people refused to integrate

And once again: there is only one government in the Middle East with nuclear weapons. Undeclared. Zero inspections.

Israel.

Let me know when a single mainstream outlet highlights that fact in their daily news coverage.

bsky.app/profile/ayou...
There is already a nuclear-armed country in the Middle East that does not allow international inspectors despite having nukes for decades - and it’s not Iran.

Israel is also one of a handful of countries to have never signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
