Don’t let cruelty make you cruel.

SO GOOD
I have a long-running list of surprising eponyms, and in this dark time I wish to share my amusement with you.

To clarify, an eponym is something named for a person. “Newton’s Laws” are called that for Isaac Newton. A surprising eponym is just that.

So, let’s begin.

I saw "shoe roast" and thought "@shoe.bsky.social roast" and got overly excited. Always game
Wow, I missed the shoe roast in Twitter times somehow, and now I’m crying laughing, thank you for this gift.
Chapter 14, in which Ishmael just roasts the everloving shit out of Nantucket, with Illinois catching a stray.

Seriously though, this reminded me of nothing more than that twitter classic of yore: the shoe roast. imgur.com/gallery/sinc...

Five years ago today was one of the deepest sorrows I've ever felt, because I love my country so much. The ensuing five years have only made that sorrow more profound.

Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, called the federal reduction “radical and dangerous” and said it was made without a transparent review of scientific data.

Amy Klobuchar can win MN in a walk.
She's just extremely MN.
Listening to Tim Pawlenty basically say on MPR ... "well, if Klobuchar runs, it's gonna be tough."

Really that's the next question.

Hey did anyone notice that HHS terminated millions of dollars in grants to the American Academy of Pediatrics?
These grants were focused on sudden infant death syndrome, expanding rural access to care, and preventing fetal alcohol syndrome.

American Academy of Pediatrics loses HHS funding after criticizing RFK Jr.
HHS cuts key AAP grants, citing concerns about “identity-based language” and insufficient focus on agency priorities. The organization said the cuts could harm child health.

The issue is that a bunch of jingoistic We Did It reporting, combined with waffling or supportive statements from lawmakers, could change this.
Some polling:
Invading Venezuela - 19% approve, 60% disapprove
OK to go w/o Congressional approval - 11% yes, 74% no
👇
Invading Venezuela is a close second:
19% approve, 60% disapprove.

I would support a law that requires that subscriptions have the exact same process and platforms to cancel as to subscribe. Zero extra steps.
i think it should be illegal for the boston globe to allow me to sign up for an subscription online but then make me call and speak with multiple people just to cancel the subscription.

This breaks my broken heart
The share of counties where 95% or more of kindergartners were vaccinated against measles has dropped from 50% before the pandemic to 28%, according to our analysis of public records from 44 states and the District of Columbia. At least 19,000 schools are now more vulnerable to outbreaks.
