I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

With the shift from books to ebooks, libraries have lost ownership of their collections. Knowledge is being privatized and monetized by multinational corporations. This results in higher costs for books that libraries can’t keep or control.

Some of us have been advocating this going back since chatGPT launched. It also has other benefits: correcting someone else's work is actually a really good way to learn something yourself.

I was an art kid who made comics and randomly stumbled my way in to one of the best, unknown, graphic design program in the Midwest. Learned to code because I wanted to build my digital designs. Now all I do is code. Maybe someday I’ll make comics again.

I've updated my post on the Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP with input latency measurements. This is one of the best 4:3 LCD screens you can use with a MiSTer FPGA.

Thanks for @zezretro.bsky.social for bringing my attention to this monitor!

I can’t comprehend how educators endure this tech. It’s infinitely helpful in my job. It’ll give me viable code, but if I don’t look over it or learn from it, it’s just going to be tech debt. Paying for college and not learning anything is wild to me.

Love to see the tech giants fight each other. Amazon doesn’t make money selling you an item. It makes money on upselling stuff & ad impressions on their site. Like how SuperWalmarts get people to buy more things than groceries. A big slice of profit AI agents take.

Amazon sued Perplexity this month over its Comet browser, which uses AI agents to do online shopping on your behalf. This is the first major front in the war over who gets to browse the web.

In the decade-plus I've been making my weekly videos, Rebecca was the only developer to have jumped into my comments to clear up a point I was unclear about—then she graciously agreed to be on the podcast. I found her to be as generous and kind as she was talented. It's truly tragic that she's gone.

Very funny to compare this to the Valve hardware announcement video, and think back to the Amazon guy on LinkedIn who was like, “why can’t we compete with Valve??? It is a mystery!!!”

Finished a documentary about the Joplin tornado. Just devastating and only 150 deaths. I forgot that Obama spoke to the graduating class and stayed for the whole ceremony, shaking hands with all the graduates. I can’t imagine Trump doing anything like that.
