I find the endless, often pointless drama that has typified UK politics coverage for a decade as draining & unedifying as anyone. But, *as of now* & by every relevant measure, Starmer’s position is perilously close to untenable. Of course people are planning for a future where he’s no longer leader.

It's strange seeing the centre and the right mocking anyone getting excited about the Green Party. Maybe their ceiling IS 17%. Maybe it's a flash-in-the-pan thing. But we are allowed to get excited about feeling represented on the left after almost six years of being told "you're done, stfu".

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

The depressing thing about today is that it was sold as Starmer's answer to Reform. This is apparently what he has to offer as a vision of a confident diverse nation: ID cards. Just utterly joyless and emotionless.

If anyone genuinely believed this ridiculous "the brain isn't fully formed until 25; you shouldn't make irreversible life-changing choices til then" grift, they'd be insisting that people shouldn't be able to join the army, get married, have kids, etc until then either.

I wouldn't worry about the exact details of a security guarantee because I don't think there's any chance Putin will sign up to anything that has one even if US involvement is limited.
