The officer shot him within seconds of arriving at the park he was playing in.
Tamir’s life mattered. It still does. My thoughts are with his family today.

I know we respect women and their choices, and I know she’s grown and rich but it always pains me to see black people cut their faces to fit some bland standard of beauty. Wide noses are beautiful and we really let the flavorless crew convince us otherwise

I find it insufferable when people use anecdotal data about mental illness to make judgements about how the disease manifests in other people. I do think that is a form of ableism, even if you have a diagnosis yourself.

A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

I will always remember the night Obama won in 2008. I was crying in my basement because I could believe our country elected an intelligent black man. I even remember the awe in my grandma’s voice on the phone because of all she been through in Jim Crow Mississippi. She deserved that moment.
