You can probably trace this back to the Nixon pardon, the post-2008 "Too big to jail" decline in white collar prosecutions, and of course more recently the half hearted Trump prosecution. These are fundamentally political, not legal problems
One of the defining feelings in American life, for decades now, is elites doing plainly criminal shit and nothing at all happening as a result. It is deranging in a way that virtually nothing else is. Media fixates on perceived street lawlessness but shit like this matters much more in my opinion.
Dereliction of responsibility by the court. It is so flagrantly illegal. www.huffpost.com/entry/us-wis...

the "paid protesters" discourse happened in 2017 and R's killed it pretty quick because they realized it was only inflaming the situation (no faster way to infuriate your concerned constituents than calling them fake!). but Elon has the political instincts of Mr Bean so of course he's doubling down
I think there’s probably power in being up against people who simply can’t conceive of anyone caring enough to act without being bribed to do so. It means that they cannot imagine, or thereby prepare themselves for, a driven opposition.

I'd also like to know what "our shared values" means. Go ahead, @nytimes.com editorial board, tell us what "shared values" Americans have considering you just said we're wrong to focus on all people being created equal and their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
If you’re going to write an op-ed like this as a newspaper, I had better see at least one example of a “scolding, censorious posture”, or else I’m just going to assume that the actual problem is that getting yelled at by strangers online has melted everyone on the Editorial Board’s brains

BREAKING: We and @aclum.bsky.social are joining Tufts student Rümeysa Öztürk’s legal team after plain-clothes ICE agents unlawfully detained her because of an op-ed she wrote.

This is an appalling violation of the First Amendment.

The Trump Administration's executive order denying trans people accurate passports has made it more difficult and dangerous for people to fly.

While we challenge this unconstitutional policy in court, know your rights before traveling abroad.
What’s the Safest Way for Trans Americans to Travel Right Now?
The Trump administration’s new policy to discontinue “X” gender markers on passports has many transgender Americans wondering if it’s safe to fly.

Some federal employees who accepted Trump’s buyout offer are now being notified that their buyout has been denied, and they are being terminated instead.

I sincerely don’t know why people aren’t physically stopping those dorks. Move shit. Lock doors. Lose the keys. Everyone switch seats. Turn off all the lights. Switch the signs on the elevator lobby. Make the settings all silly. Use a different language. Wear costumes. Fill rooms with balloons
