The start of a Klingon translation of Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody' popped into my head this summer.

I had no idea what I might do with it when done - certainly *I'm* not going to sing it, I thought.

Well. I'm developing a habit of doing things I thought I wouldn't.

Meet our newest patient here at the Alaska Raptor Center, a Northern Pygmy Owl named King Owlbert by his rescuers. Owlbert arrived with a drooping wing, making flight difficult. We’ve given him a supportive wing wrap, plenty of tasty mice, and time to heal. #small #owls #adorable

Oh no
What if every time you went to thispersondoesnotexist.com, it wasn't actually using generative AI but rather causing a real person's instantaneous and simultaneous erasure from this timeline?

In 1995, divers near the Ryukyu Islands off Japan spotted these elaborate mandala-like art in the sand of the ocean's floor.

They were elaborate 2 meter wide sculptures with fluting, shell ornaments placed at ridges, sand sorted by granularity, both consistent in design & unique.

It is weird that of all the possible slogans, Irish bigots chose "Ireland is full" when, very notably, Ireland is basically the only country in the world with fewer people than it had 200 years ago

I’m gonna make this a sign so I can tap it.
And like, presuming that you want to actually motivate people to take some kind of action, you should know that anxiety, fear, shame, and guilt are demotivators, not motivators. People will be less likely to take action if you inspire those feelings in them, not more.

@tartinisdream.bsky.social Hi, I joined your Northern Ireland storygraph challenge, but I'm not sure if it's for books set in that county, authors from that county, or just whatever connection we think works ourselves

There was a huge X-class solar flare yesterday on the Sun!

You can see it on the right-hand limb in these SDO images.

I find it so neat that we live next to, and can study, a star.

We take it for granted that it's "the Sun" and it's always in the sky, but there is a star and it is RIGHT THERE.

From the other direction... interesting conference panel on the UK Census and the religion question. I asked how they determined genuineness when it came to Jedi responses, because they said many were not. I was told to look at the work of Beth Singler...

How is this bird real?
Sometimes there’s too much going on in the world and you need to look at a large ridiculous bird for a minute.

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Release Day! PEACOCK ON PARADE is available now!

American Tara always wanted to visit Ireland—but her itinerary didn’t include a handsome man who turns into a peacock, or a wicked fashion designer with plans to illegally collect peacock feathers!

I’m only putting this here in case someone else needs to read this: it is okay to go to a PT for minor, bearable pain. It’s way better than waiting for it to get terrible.
