A patch of green moss growing on the side of a stone fence has little sporophytes sporting green sporangia with translucent opercula at their tips. The thin sporophyte stem is reddish and fades to a translucent green, the sporangium is like a small, long green barrel, and the operculum is like a green water drop at the tip of of the sporangia. The leafy stems, called gametophytes, are very green and wet.

Three shaggy mane inkcaps growing together under some bushes. One is quite big and starting to turn a bit grey at the rim of the cap, the other two are less than half the size of the big one and haven't started opening yet. Shaggy manes are white with high oblong caps, covered in tufts that make them look a bit shaggy.

Delighted to spot our first Scarlet Elf cup (Sarcoscypha austriaca) fungi of the season in the fen this morning. Here's two of around a dozen we found.

In the centre of the photo two small cup shaped fungi one above the other. The insides are a rich deep red colour, while the outsides are a paler orange colour. They're growing among leaf litter with chips of old decaying wood and a few blades of green grass.

Old bank, high on hillside - a semi-permeable barrier to slow water flowing off the hills, reducing flood risk in the valley below, preventing soil from washing away in runoff. An abundance of plant life drinking up that slowed water, supporting birds & animals.
Stone bank, once the base of a hedgerow. Now the hedge shrubs have grown out into full size trees, the roots of the trees growing down through the gaps between the moss covered rocks, creating an even more complex network of spaces to shelter wildlife. The grass, moss & wild plants create habitat and food for all sorts of tiny invertebrates & nesting material for birds.

Weather that is way too warm for this time of year. 😬 I hope all my fruit trees stay sleeping. Last year my apple trees woke up early then lost all their flowers before they had a chance to be pollinated. 🌱🍑 Here is the peach blossoms of a few years ago.
