Imagine choosing to model scenarios that implicitly assume a) terraforming-scale carbon capture and permanent sequestration is technically, politically and economically feasible, while e.g. b) shifting from car-dependent sprawl to denser cities with good public and active transit is impossible.

I have been experimenting with different ways of visualizing the curvature of meandering rivers. Plotting curvature in the context of the meanders themselves helps QC-ing the curvature data ⚒️🧪
Thick black line is the centerline of the Beni River in Bolivia. Circles that are tangent to the centerline represent the radius of curvature ag the location. Smaller circles = higher curvatures. In this version the circles are colored according to the curvature; brighter colors = higher curvatures.

It literally means 'You too, child', but what Caesar may have intended by the words isnt clear. Tempest cites 'an important article' by James Russell (1980) 'that has often been overlooked'. Russel points out that the words kai su often appear on curse tablets, and suggest that Caesar's putative last words were not 'the emotional parting declaration of a betrayed man to one he had treated like a son' but more along the lines of 'See you in hell, punk'.

I made this #map of Mt Rainier back in 2018 as part of a series showcasing the volcanos of the high Cascades. Started with Hood and did most of the big ones, but Rainier came out best. I manually pulled out forested areas used highest hit lidar data. It was a slog, but it got the detail I wanted.

Just a regular reminder: the ArcticDEM is one of the most beautiful spatial datasets out there. I've been working on a large tile set for our #arctic abrupt thaw mapping activities recently and I can't help but stop and take a peek as the data rolls in.

I made this giant 3x6-foot map of the #GreatSmokyMountains to hang up in our house. Worked on it in the background over a the course of a couple of years. The last touch was dialing in the hypsometric tinting, which I think finally pulled it all together.
