I've been in my job for a whole month already!

In my latest newsletter I reflect on all the transitions I've had to make in the last four weeks.

New job, career, and pace. Exciting research to plan. An ADHD brain to pacify.

How many people are giving away their image to ChatGPT so they generate a silly cartoon?

Even then the league form was awful...

I think there is a reason the performance picked up after Romero went off last week. He's an idiot and his public posts suggest he's toxic too #coys

Looking forward to the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

Or, if you're the BBC, the World Cup of Curling...

I'm at McDonald's because my unique lactose + paprika intolerance is never catered for. Is vegan food that bland that it always has to be spicy?

McDonald's at Leeds train station is super chill. They have staff on the door telling people they have no beef.

I can live with that. Wish they'd stop changing, I'm still adjusting to losing Devlan Mud...
February 2, 2026 at 7:28 PM
They've changed the recipe?! That's irritating, hope it's not too different...

When did this happen? #Warhammer #Shrinkflation

We got a new rescue cat on Saturday. This was her on Sunday afternoon. Think she's settling in well.

Meet Coco. She's 2, tiny, and was found on the streets.

It's a return to the Jose/Conte days - wait until we're two down and then start playing #coys

Martin Jol?

Romero's had enough, hasn't he #coys

I've started 'enjoying' our games much more since I cancelled subscriptions, and instead listen to them on the radio whilst doing the ironing. Much better use of my time (and money) #coys

Yes we have injuries (again) but we shouldn't be using them as permission to lose (again). This club loves an excuse... #coys

It's been 50 years since the Flood Studies Report was published, a seminal work involving forerunners of UKCEH & @metoffice.gov.uk.

Adam Griffin reflects on 5 decades of groundbreaking science to improve flood and rainfall frequency estimation in the UK.

Whenever it floods, the UK media uses images of York. It is meant to look terrible, shocking, scary.

But this is an image of resilience. You can see this scene every few weeks in winter! This is York being flexible, a flood being inconvenient but not damaging. York gets on with it.

Next you'll be claiming you have never spilt a pot of Devlan Mud/Agrax/Nuln Oil.

No where near good enough. Again. #coys

Really need to use this opportunity to get some confidence into our attacking players #coys
January 20, 2026 at 8:29 PM
The problem with talking about the injuries is that it gives the players an excuse to lose. And they love one of those, just look at the end of last season... #coys

Raiding the University library to research and Environmental Hazards module.

Could I subject them to my own (bleak) special interests... probably not a good idea.

Time to start on my Christmas stash! You can't get these in the UK.
