Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Stanley Nelson directed an excellent documentary, “Tulsa Burning” for the 100mph anniversary.

Russell Westbrook produced it.

I believe it’s on Hulu, and definitely worth watching.

I’ve said it before and will say it again, trans southerners, especially trans Texans and Floridians, are operating on an entirely different astral plane than those of us based in safer (relatively) locations. Like the level of commitment & courage & radical joy is beyond words.
Featured story: Weeks after a transphobic attack, dozens of trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming folks gathered on the “free side” of Austin’s Barton Springs to swim, celebrate, and fearlessly take up space.

@kitoconnell.com was there to witness this moment of queer joy and resilience...

Everything wrong with political journalism in one graf. This is not a policy proposal that exists but that doesn’t matter, what matters is that someone “won” by asking it bsky.app/profile/larr...
What a strange framing and characterization. How does one describe his blatantly dishonest, racist question about taxes as “press[ing] the Mayor-elect on his policy proposals”? In what way does this lying troll emerge as a “winner“?

We need it. Not only are the classes full, but also concert halls, libraries - we've gone to a bunch of classical concerts this year as an antidote to despair and guess what - they are full. They were not as full before, but they are now.

"Humanities are shrinking" is artificially imposed top down.
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe

Since February, according to my latest analysis, almost 600,000 Black women have been economically sidelined. The November 20, 2025, Jobs Report makes clear this isn’t a blip. It’s a structural crisis. That is not a recovery. It is a redistribution of opportunity.

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

Important update: I have received word from insiders that Crunchyroll executives have deemed the user backlash to be small enough that their subtitle enshittification & OOONA plans will NOT be cancelled, only delayed.

I have added an update to the article. There's a summary at the top now too.

A ton of research and effort went into this one. This is the article to read to get to the bottom of Crunchyroll's subtitle changes!

I loved this essay, and really do recommend reading it.

Three concerns:

1) despite repeated mention of Women in Indian SF early on, that stops with the rhetorical question 2/3rds in,

2) these images look, to my eye, like GenAI, which is disappointing in a work discussing unacknowledged art.
Finally out into the world, the labour of many months. My long essay in the inaugural edition of the Alter Magazine on the pasts, presents, and futures of Indian science fiction.

Ngl, it doesn't feel awesome that so much discourse about policies designed specifically to hurt trans people is about the negative effects it might have on some cis people.

Not cos it's not bad that it will have broader incidental effects but because it should be enough that it will hurt us.
