really feels like housing affordability is one of the most important political issues of our time, affecting nearly every aspect of our lives, and everyday our mainstream political discourse is about whether sour cream is woke or not

I would die so quickly if I went back in time
we would rather entertain the fantasy of going back in time and living a highly romanticized version of past life in which we are the Main Character instead of the peon getting the whip ("work harder, peon!")

My deep thought of the day: one of the most under-appreciated reasons behind the Beatles' rise to fame and continued popularity is that it's just really fun to say Liverpudlian.

The start of "Constructive Summer" is my go-to answer when people ask what my walk-up music would be if I were a professional baseball player.

I usually get blank stares but it's a great answer.

Sadly, I'm in my 40s with no athletic talent, so it will never come to pass.

I'm actually someone who's open to being persuaded that it was important to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. I'm not inherently opposed to the idea, at all. But I don't find "shut up and salute the troops" a persuasive strategic argument. Quite the contrary, I find it suspiciously thin one.

It boggles me the way the press writes about the guy as if he engages in strategy of any kind, rather than just unrestrained reactionary ego masturbation.

Occam’s razor, and Hanlon’s for that matter too, people. Come on!

This is deranged. Jan. 6 defendants were repped by one of the best public defender offices in the U.S. They were more likely to be released pretrial & got comparatively light sentences. SCOTUS threw out a bunch of convictions, which almost never happens. They got gold-plated due process!

I am advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I am also advocating for due process for the other deportees.

Wanting to know for certain whether someone is a criminal is *not* the same as "aiding and abetting" crime, and this is not a difficult concept.
I'm also advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia FWIW
Just to be clear, I'm advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia

This level of sycophancy is equal parts pathetic, comical, and terrifying. But focus on the first two. Don't scream and shout. Mock, relentlessly. Because this is beyond lame.
NONE of this is normal

Some thoughts on Wednesday-night’s tragic air accident near Washington, DC:

The mid-air collision of American Airlines flight 5342 and a US Army VH-60 helicopter is highly personal for me. It literally hits close to home as I live approximately three miles away from National Airport.

There is simply no plausible argument that the president has the constitutional authority to refuse to spend appropriated funds because he doesn’t like how the money is being spent.

The legality of policy impoundments is just not a close question.

5'5 guy here. Tried online dating with minimal traction for 4 or so years. Finally deleted all my profiles, started getting out more. Turned out I was not, in fact, undesirable. More dates, eventually met my now wife.

Moral: get the fuck offline. (This does not just apply to dating either.)
Study showing dating tradeoffs shows 5'6 guy needs to be earning 175K per year more to be as successful as a 6ft men. Tall women are also significantly disadvantaged. Personality can't help much if you can't get through the app dating filters. home.uchicago.edu/~hortacsu/on...

I think the lesson of history since 1989 is that the decisive element in modern geopolitics is not brilliance but incompetence.

No one can be genius enough to have the world dancing on their strings (it's too complex!), but plenty are stupid enough to wreck a perfectly viable state apparatus.

Yes, but in 2004, even as Kerry lost, a freshman Senator with a funny name had just wowed at the DNC and seemed (correctly) to be on the fast track to the White House. I'm less engaged than I used to be for a wide variety of reasons, but is there anybody like that waiting in the wings?
