I suspect that fact that the vast majority of LLM users don’t seem to have received this (really very simple!) message is because the AI companies have a vested interest in us not understanding it. “ChatGPT is smart, it just makes mistakes sometimes” is much more marketable than the truth.
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

What if...get this...the constitution kinda /kicks ass/. And if your instinctual response to that is to qualify that with a bunch of historical context...yeah, me too...but I'm going to ignore that instinct because I DON'T WANT TO LIVE IN AN AUTOCRACY SO I'M JUST GONNA BE A CONSTITUTION HYPE MAN RN.

Near as I can tell, the Discourse about Bluesky "dying" or being a encapsulation or whatever doesn't seem to be informed by much in the way or data or concrete reporting.
If anything, kinda seems like more of a vibes fight, rooted in wildly speculative ideas about what social media is or should be.

I keep seeing this reference to public bathrooms as women's "private spaces" and I just do not understand it. Strangers are strangers even when they're women! We're not communing in there for hours at a time, talking about perimenopause and who's getting divorced and shaving our legs.

I will say two things:
1. There are many kinds of higher education — state schools, trade schools, research schools, etc. — and they are all very good in many ways.
2. Liberal arts schools are good and important and news of them dying seems bad.

Humanities programs enrollments are massively down, liberal arts schools that stressed innovative and challenging wide-spanning thinking are dying all around us, and fewer and fewer humanities professor jobs exist.

I downloaded signal a year ago and have just been watching and gauging interest amongst my friends/groups. Maybe time to actually talk about and understand the options/risks.
A pastoral reminder that one might want to take caution about public, low/no encryption messaging and social media: Discord, FB groups, SMS messaging, etc.
