Public service announcement

Just so we're all clear, this week the bins go out on Fratunday morvening, with the exception of mixed glass clippings and general garden food. Those go out on Modnesday, before 15.87am.

This is the 15th year of #DuvetKnowItsChristmas, which is preposterous. Rules: if you find yourself dealing with unusual / claustrophobic / gaudy sleeping arrangements this Christmas Eve, share a picture with the world. Use the hashtag (with capitalisation) and cc me if you can be bothered.

I think I have unlocked a new level of Christmas Eve-ing

I have a tray of roast potatoes in the oven and we will be enjoying these with a baked Camembert, charcuterie and bread

You can never have too many roast potatoes over Christmas

Such a small but lovely Christmas thing is the massive Big Yellow Self Storage building near the Hammersmith Flyover turning off the S on either side so it now reads ELF STORAGE.

Michael Sheen is just. An exemplary human being in so many ways
The actor Michael Sheen used all his money to start a fake debt collecting business, buy 900 people in Wales's debt, and excused it. If Musk bought ALL $194 billion in medical debt in the U.S. and excused it in the same way, he'd still be the world's riches man by hundreds of billions of dollars.
Michael Sheen spent his own money to write off $1.3 million of neighbors’ debts | CNN
Actor Michael Sheen has bought $1.3 million of his neighbors’ debts and written them off using $129,000 of his own money.

There's no way that box is big enough to have SCSI/IDE/floppy drive ribbon cables in it. Or a parallel cable for a flatbed scanner.
this is the greatest feeling, when the cord box proves its utility to a family member

It's not retail, but I have never forgotten the woman who phoned me at the Food Standards Agency to complain 'there is too much white in an egg'

Felt like putting her through to some chickens

For all the 'volcanoes produce more CO2 than humans' CFM's out there ...
In 1991 Mt Pinatubo spewed out 50 MILLION TONNES OF CO₂!!

That's a ridiculously MASSIVE amount!

- 95% of respondents want AI companies to pay for their training data (made up of 88% saying strengthen copyright law, & 7% saying leave it as is)

Headlines definitely land differently if your brain is accustomed to reading AI as Artificial Insemination! e.g. www.bbc.co.uk/news/busines...
Airbnb turns to AI to help prevent house parties
The short-term rental giant is now using artificial intelligence to try to prevent troublemakers.

Despite what you hear from fossil fuel-funded politicians, the U.K has just generated a record amount of clean, domestic wind energy.

Enough to power 23 million homes!

U.K decarbonisation policy is a recipe for energy security.

I worked in Sainsbury's in the 1990's while doing A levels, the Christmas stock would start to arrive over the summer holidays. It would trickle out to the shop floor once the back-to-school aisle was cleared in September.
Probably goes out later in the 2020's because Halloween is much bigger now.
The main fact that stuck with me after writing a book about British Xmases is that The Times was complaining about decorations going up in October back in the *1930s*, Selfridges has had decorations up in Oct since at least the 1950s and the whole “earlier every year” thing is generally bollocks
Middle class people love to pretend to be appalled at Christmas decorations being either early or fun to look at, the ideal Christmas tree is put up at midnight on Christmas day and decorated only by a black cloak and an unlit matchstick

Well that's going on the Christmas list!
Data centres rarely look that tidy, no matter how many times you redo the cabling.
This is astonishingly, real and, I'm assured, not AI-generated

Holiday reminder that puppies are forever, not just for Christmas.

Dont get a puppy unless you want a dog. They're a living creature that bonds to its pack (your family). Please dont get a puppy if youre just going to bring it to the shelter in January...

This graphic predicts future temperatures, based on continued accelerated warming:

1.50°C by 2026
2.00°C by 2036
2.50°C by 2045
2.85°C by 2050

Of course, a lot of non-linearities are possible before 2050. Like a net-zero, carbon-free, sustainable vegan utopia. Or the other ...
