I was so excited to celebrate It's Not a Bloody Trend's birthday this morning, only to discover that it was actually...yesterday. Anyway, my book on (you'll be shocked to hear) ADHD is one today!
What with this, and Marina and Richard on The Rest is Entertainment this morning confusing the idea of “pregnant people” as being used to include trans women (who of course can’t get pregnant, ffs, but trans men certainly can) it’s a great day for “oh but you can’t say anything nowadays.”

I love the BBC. I would pay the licence fee for access just to CBeebies, CBBC & Radio 2/3/4.
It is a national broadcaster, not a state broadcaster, & its editorial decisions should not be made by politicians.
Its journalists make 1000s of editorial decisions every week & get most of them right.

The CURRENT sitting MP for Clacton earns £511,000 as a presenter for GB News and took £281,000 as a brand ambassador for Direct Bullion.

So maybe sit this one out, you rancid herring.

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

The BBC, both as a radio broadcaster, and a TV broadcaster, didn’t start out doing news at all. News is the upstart department. Its job is to act as a national fireplace. And that’s properly vital now, more than ever.
I reckon a shared national popular culture is just as important (if not more important) than a fact based, impartial news service for liberal democracy to work.

I have been rewatching season 4 of #StrangerThings before the new one comes out at the end of the month and wow, you really can just fast forward through all of the David Harbour/boring scenes in Russia and miss absolutely nothing to the plot! MOAR KIDS MOAR ERICA MOAR EDDIE!

Glad that someone has finally taken responsibility for the appalling assault on democracy that was the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Slightly confused that it's the Director-General of the BBC, but what do I know?

Since we’re in the mood for strict accuracy in broadcast news, worth noting that a rival channel had a pundit - unchallenged - say asylum seekers in hotels committed 44% of sexual offences in one county, seemingly because she cannot understand basic maths.
A national newspaper journalist went on a British TV channel to claim police stats showed asylum-seekers committed 44% of sex crimes in Dorset.

This shocking claim was treated as fact by the channel which promoted the clip on social media where it was amplified by AI.

Except... it's bollocks.

Transphobia is a pipeline to the far right. An example:

Suzanne Moore used to be a left wing columnist at the Guardian.

Then came the anti-trans panic. Despite the Guardian also promoting it, it wasn’t enough & she left.

Moore is now complaining about wokeness over the Irish famine & colonialism.
Suzanne Moore, who would rather be locked up than pay her BBC licence fee because the BBC is too nice to trans people for her liking.

This is great. Pregnant people is an important term because trans men can carry babies too. Trevor Phillips seems to be assuming that only men transition, what a shocker.
Great to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social on @skynewsrss.bsky.social this morning standing up for trans people.

It’s clear that Trevor Phillips was trying to trap Zack by not giving him all the facts! Martine Croxall not only eye rolled, she changed a direct quote - unethical for a journalist!
