Notice the straw man here. The crime of pedophilia isn’t “being attracted to 17 year olds,” it’s sexually assaulting children, which includes 17 year olds. It’s not some kind of a thought crime—nobody cares what you’re attracted to until you act on it!

I know that this site leans quite left, so I very much hope that people will recognize the significance of this news. The right is cleaving, and the side triumphing — in terms of sheer numbers and media coverage — needs to be understood for exactly what it is: authoritarian and bigoted.

Look, I know this weaponization of male academic interest is the oldest story in the book, but it’s just so, so pernicious. It’s awful to the women directly involved, but it’s also awful to *all* women in the academy, who have to live in its shadow all the time.
