Why am I so against generative AI in games?
Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

I wholeheartedly agree. The importance of a well-placed “I/We don’t know what this is or why” is so crucial to actually find out!
"I don't know" is one of the most powerful intellectual positions imaginable.
Where you plant your "I don't know" flag signals your research question, methodology, and even what *counts* as evidence.
Current commercial manifestations of GenAI make it so you cannot even see the spot on the ground.

Here’s a thing: when my high school friends & I were in the paper in San Diego in the 1980s for our “Satanic activities” we were frankly more annoyed that the reporter called us “stoners” than Satanists. Most of us were straight-edge! No drugs at our D&D games, you paranoid, gullible grownups!
The number of dudes saying they grew up playing D&D in the 1980s Bible Belt and say the Satanic Panic never happened and is a myth made up by anti-Christians is striking.

We have forgotten what it's like to hold a child paralyzed with polio or comfort a mom who has lost her child from measles. It wasn’t that many generations ago. And I don‘t want to see us go backward. They protect our children. They are our best defense against these terrible illnesses.

We've had these two little posters hanging on our wall for basically ever. They helped our kids get through middle school and high school and I personally still take a second to read them often.

My goodness the temptation to put texting in my #ttrpgs but not any other part of cell phones or the internet. Instant messaging, nothing else. Knights wandering around with pagers like it’s a Ren Faire in 1988.
