Here’s my go-to article that provides a good, concise overview of one of the main culprits in the privatization of libraries: Library Systems and Services.

TRUTH
I will say over and over again that us library folk need to be louder in our support of the Post Office. Because guess what—if they start thinking of USPS in terms of“making” or “losing” money, libraries won’t be far behind.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.

This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have tried, it’s just that even success required overshoot (ie, missing the target). And because it’s been framed as a “game over” threshold, media coverage of 1.5 has contributed to the idea that climate action is now pointless. That is not, and will never, be true.

10% of Meta's 2024 ad revenue came from outright frauds and scams; the platform shows consumers 15 billion ads for fraud and scams every single day. This doesn't even include agitprop and AI slop.

Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, and it internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day, company documents show.

Cough cough pointing out that @nkjemisin.bsky.social illuminated this truth in fiction better than any poll or think piece ever could.

there is a certain irony around tech bros who believe that the work of writers is largely worthless, while also claiming at the same time that they desperately need to use that written work - without compensating human authors - so they can make a bazillion dollars off LLM products.
I've spent my entire life being told that everything I do is useless, mocked and being told no one should be paid for "underwater basket weaving," and now they're like, "I must steal all the underwater basket weaving lore because it's imperative for my survival"

Eat farts, my dudes.

i think most white americans who have never been Policed don’t realize that you are always already a criminal.

the second anyone with institutional power believes you to be, needs you to be, or wants you to be a criminal you are and always have been.
the last few days has been a reminder that people really want to believe that not only is there this real thing called a “criminal,” and that if they need to, anyone can just prove they aren’t one
do people not realize that the past four decades of US policing legislation PR and practice have made the allegation that someone is a “gang member” entirely subject to the whims of the state
