Browsing a 1899 book on small steam engines & the preface starts with this banger.
The intention of the author in writing this work has been to furnish specific directions and correct dimensioned plans for small engines and boilers, in lieu of sketches and gossip about such machines

Well, it's three years until the big total solar eclipse that will cut across some remote parts of Australia. Time to start planning! 😄
I'm thinking I'll head for Devil's Marbles. Never been there and it's right in the path.

I saw a Swamp Wallaby! 😳😃❤️

In the decades I've lived here I kind of knew they were around. I'd heard them, caught glimpses (never with camera ready) and seen scat.

But not boldly out in the open like this 👍

This one moved decisively (and silently) over the bank towards the creek upon seeing me.

One feature of eucalyptus species is the cap (or operculum) that covers developing flower buds (L). As the flower develops the cap is popped off revealing numerous fluffy stamens (R)

I NASA estimates it will take 20+ launches to refuel StarShip HLS for its moon landing.

It is unclear to me how they will accomplish 20+ fuelling launches in the 54 months left in this decade when they still haven’t made it to orbit.

No Moon with SpaceX this decade... and no Mars.

The one benefit of not having time to watch a lot of television is occasionally I'll watch a thing that's become inescapable, like the first season of THE BEAR, and enjoy it, and keep meaning to go back to it -- only to find out that I was in fact better off just watching the first season

I learned today that people being born this year are considered “Generation Beta,” as part of a pattern that continues to piss me off. We aren’t Gen X because we followed Gen W; this is historically conflated nomenclature. I will die on this hill.

I suspect that fact that the vast majority of LLM users don’t seem to have received this (really very simple!) message is because the AI companies have a vested interest in us not understanding it. “ChatGPT is smart, it just makes mistakes sometimes” is much more marketable than the truth.
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Built the little Bambu Lab Cyberbrick forklift. Much fun, but also much fiddly tiny parts.
Only had blue TPU filament for the tracks so I laser cut some shiny Perspex hub caps to make it more fun looking.
