Hello.

Today, @caddy.bsky.social completed its first ECH handshake.

It completely automated the "HTTPS"-type DNS record and TLS certificates for both inner and outer SNI.

This is my periodic rant that Apple Intelligence is so bad that today it got every fact wrong its AI a summary of @washingtonpost.com news alerts.

It's wildly irresponsible that Apple doesn't turn off summaries for news apps until it gets a bit better at this AI thing.

This is the year where we all need to apply actual standards to AI functionality. Users, writers, and the companies themselves. Apple shipped AI summaries because it felt under pressure to do so, but they're not reliable enough and that's what should matter.
“A BBC spokesperson said: ‘It is essential that Apple fixes this problem urgently’”

Thing is, Apple can’t. No company can ‘fix’ errors going out in AI summaries, because they’re fancy autocomplete. AI doesn’t understand information and context.

We have larger concerns heading into 2025, but I can't let go of the idea that the next season of Sesame Street could be its last. So I wrote about why the kids' TV institution is still vital after more than 50 years:

With its Warner Bros. Discovery contract about to expire, TV critic Alan Sepinwall explains why the beloved children's series deserves to survive.

People quoting these AI summaries for fact checks drive me wild. I sussed out a core factual conflation it made between two areas of a technical standard last week. It's good I didn't trust it. Glad I grew up with Wikipedia being drilled as untrustworthy. Wikipedia has issues even when sourced!
I was excited to tell my kids that there's a sequel to Encanto, only to scroll down and learn that Google's AI just completely made this up

I recently wrote about the new way that caching works in OpenZFS 2.2, where the ARC intelligently tunes itself, blending recency, frequency, and object type for unmatched performance—without the need for constant tuning.
