“American Canto,” I will literally never get over this title

Sing, O Muse, of the sexting of Nuzzi,
Accursed, which brought many measles epidemics and colloidal silver poisonings upon the Americans,
Hurling their country into absolute shit
I don’t think any of us are fully prepared for the level of self-pity and absolution that’s going to be in Olivia Nuzzi’s (hilariously titled) “American Canto”

Why does my gym have five rowing machines, but only one Concept2?

They're likely cheaper than or the same price as the alternatives, and they're the standard for actual rowers.

No one will ever sum up Bari Weiss's career more succinctly than "what's the point of standards"
“Standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She asks ‘What’s the point of standards?’

Let’s also not forget that Nakadai was the first guy who got to gush an absolute geyser of blood in a samurai movie, a happy accident that became a trope.

(this short interview with Nakadai is delightful)

One of the reasons why Finland is the happiest country in the world is that the public broadcaster Yle sends a live feed of the first 8 weeks of a pack of puppies every fall. It’s already the fifth edition of ”Finland’s most therapeutic live feed”.

The second-worst direct-to-streaming film I've seen, after the 2021 film Infinite, also on Paramount Plus.
I sometimes have to remind myself that Section 31 is a real Star Trek movie, and not some weird awful fever dream hallucination.

Tonight's movie: The Strawberry Blonde, directed by Raoul Walsh. Starring James Cagney, Olivia de Haviland, and Rita Hayworth.

The singing, brawling, and nostalgia call to mind John Ford. Hayworth's arch mannerisms are a bit irritating; why oh why was she directed like that?

Still showing at Coolidge Corner in Brookline, so you can see it on a big screen in a 1930s movie palace.

Highly, highly recommended. (And planning to rewatch a different deal Toro tonight)
FRANKENSTEIN is on NETFLIX but- still in many theatres- please consult your local listings and choose your watch/rewatch preference!
Where do I even begin? Guillermo del Toro @realgdt.bsky.social has created an absolute masterpiece. I only wish I’d had the chance to experience it on the big screen. The story of Frankenstein has been told countless times, but never like this.

Gaming discourse is so toxic because millions of people are mad that video games don't make them feel like they're 13 anymore

Read this thread. This is what @katmabu.bsky.social was protesting, and why she repeatedly says getting beaten up by ICE outside is nothing compared to the torture and crimes being committed inside Broadview. These thugs must be held to account.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.
